Whorled Milkweed (Asclepias verticillata) is a graceful, fine textured native perennial with slender leaves arranged in rings along upright stems. Its small clusters of white to greenish white flowers bloom in summer, followed by narrow seed pods.

A natural fit for sunny, well drained gardens, meadows, and rocky openings, it brings a lighter look to a planting than broad leaved milkweeds. It can spread by rhizomes and seed, so give it room to settle in. In Maryland, it grows in open barrens, rocky outcrops, and thin canopy woodlands, including Ridge and Valley habitats.
