Shrubby St. John’s Wort (Hypericum prolificum) is a compact native shrub of rocky woodlands, barrens and clearings in the Ridge and Valley. Its bright yellow summer flowers carry a dense brush of golden stamens that draws pollen collecting bees.
Rounded growth and narrow green leaves make it a useful shrub for smaller native gardens, sunny woodland edges and mixed shrub plantings. It tolerates rocky soil, clay and periods of drought once established.
