Planting & Care
Plant in full sun to partial shade in moist, well drained soil. It grows naturally in meadows, low valleys, and along stream banks. New England Aster can struggle in dry soil or deep shade, and tall stems may need staking. To manage its height, prune about one third of the plant in early summer. It may self seed in a suitable spot.
Ecology & Wildlife
The flowers provide late season nectar for bees, butterflies, and migrating monarchs. Pearl Crescent caterpillars use the plant as a host, and birds eat the seeds.
