Fireweed (Chamerion angustifolium) sends up tall stems lined with vivid pink flowers above narrow, willowlike leaves. It is a native wildflower of mountain fields, sunny clearings, and recently disturbed ground. Its long summer bloom provides nectar for bees and other insects. Give it room: fireweed spreads by underground rootstocks and windblown seeds, forming colonies over time.

Planting & Care
Grow in full sun in dry to moist soil with good drainage. Fireweed can grow in a range of soils, but it does not tolerate waterlogged ground or very poor mineral soil. It is best suited to larger naturalized plantings or sunny openings where its spreading habit is welcome. Remove seed stalks before the fluffy seeds disperse if you want to limit new seedlings.
