Culver's Root (Veronicastrum virginicum) is a native perennial found in moist meadows, streambanks, open woodlands and other damp habitats throughout parts of the eastern United States. Its tall, elegant spikes of white flowers bloom throughout summer, providing nectar and pollen for bumblebees, sweat bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Its distinctive whorled leaves and branching flower spikes make it a beautiful addition to naturalistic gardens!

Planting & Care

Plant in full sun to partial shade with medium to wet, moisture-retentive soil. Culver's Root prefers consistent moisture, especially during hot summer weather, and is a great choice for rain gardens, moist meadows and pondside plantings. Water regularly while establishing and avoid prolonged drought. Plants may take a couple of years to reach their full size, but once established they form sturdy clumps that return year after year!

Ecology & Wildlife
Culver's Root provides nectar and pollen for a wide variety of native bees, including bumblebees, sweat bees and small carpenter bees. Its summer flowers also attract butterflies, moths, hoverflies and beneficial wasps. The tall stems and dense flower spikes provide structure in meadow and garden habitats, while the dried seedheads add interest through fall and winter.
